LOGAN — A vehicle fire Thursday morning destroyed an SUV and caused damage to a nearby home. The fire was reported at 10:30 a.m. near 321 Homestead Court in Providence.

Logan City Firefighter Trevor Mortenson investigates a fire in Providence Thursday morning (Rod Boam).

Logan City Fire Marshal Craig Humphreys said the fire stated in the engine compartment of an older model Ford Expedition. What exactly sparked the blaze is still under investigation, but the car had recently been driven about 40 minutes earlier.

The SUV was parked in front of a garage at the residence.

Humphreys said when crews arrived on the scene, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. The fire had started to spread to the exterior of the home, melting the vinyl siding.

Two juveniles were inside the home at the time of the fire. They were able to evacuate without injury.

Humphreys credited firefighters for quickly extinguishing the fire and keeping it from spreading to the inside of the home. “They did a tremendous job,” he said.

The fire completely destroyed the vehicle. Damage to the home was minor.

The blaze is being considered accidental.
