LOGAN -Deserae Turner who nearly died from a gunshot wound, is passing out free gunlocks at the Cache County Fair this weekend to bring awareness to gun safety.

Deserae Turner shows a box of gun trigger locks she is passing out at the Cache County Fair this weekend to bring awareness to gun safety.

She was sitting in the shade of a tree with her parent waiting to show her service dog for the dog show.

I’ve been surprised at the number of people who have come up to me and shown me a scar where they had been wounded from a gunshot,” she said. “There have been more than I thought there would be.”

One person told her they had lost a child from a gunshot.

Deserae said she is trying to bring awareness to the danger of guns and children’s safety and not trying to make any kind of political statement.

Her mother, April, said they have been surprised at some of the reactions she has gotten from people.

“We are getting response from both sides of the spectrum,” she said. “We realize there are people who already have gunlocks and others avoid us like we are trying to make a statement,” April said. “We are just trying to get people with guns to protect children by giving out gunlocks.”

The Turners began with 2,500 gunlocks donated by a Project Child Safe program sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

Deserae is distributing the free locks in an effort help ensure safe and responsible gun ownership.

On February 16, 2017, teenagers Jayzon Decker and Colter Petersen lured Deserae to a Smithfield canal where Peterson fired a bullet into the back of her head. They then left her for dead. She was found several hours later in the dry canal near Sky View High School.

Both teens were sentenced to 15 years to life on February 17, 2018. Deserae suffers long-term physical disabilities from the incident.

Trigger locks Deserae is giving away can easy be picked by another teenager or 8 year old having a cell or laptop showing how.
    Search for lockpickinglawyer @ YouTube.
Most if not all trigger locks are toys that can also be opened using a modified screw driver

What? No link to the actual video? Come on Jay.. if you want to make it easier for people to find the videos on how to pick gun locks, why not just post the direct link? That would be so helpful for anyone looking for that kind of information, and REALLY prove that you know what you’re talking about. Then they can click the link in your name and buy one of yours. Awesome… way to fully disclose your reason for posting.

This is just a added precaution that will discourage children from playing with the gun. I think it is an awesome idea. If you are old enough to pick the lock than you have a premeditated agenda.
