LOGAN – More than 40,000 Utah State University students lived in either the Mountain View or Valley View Towers since they were built in 1966 on campus. Valley View was demolished last week and USU Senior Director of Student Housing Steve Jenson said Mountain View is next.
“The Mountain View Tower will be taken down in 2022. We’ll have some replacement housing that will be built. We’re in the planning stages for that right now.”
Jenson said new buildings will replace both towers.
“We’re planning a new suite-style housing unit that will be built between Central Suites and the tennis courts.”
The facility he called Central Suites is now open just west of the USU tennis courts.
”(It has) a lot of great spaces. So, independent of the suites it has a theatre room, music rooms and lots of gathering locations; it’s a very popular location.”
In the planning stages of Central Suites, which was a two-year building project, more private rooms are included plus laundry facilities free to the students.
To see the progress of the building’s demolition, USU has set a live webcam. You can see it here.
