USU’S Center for Gender Studies and Research now open

LOGAN – The announcement of Utah State University’s new Center for Intersectional Gender Studies and Research is the next stage of USU’s commitment to staying on the cutting edge of gender studies, according to it’s new interim director Christy Glass.

“What this new center will bring is a new energy and a renewed focus on both intersectional gender analysis and interdisciplinary research,” Glass explained, “so we’re hoping to link student and faculty researchers from across the campus in fruitful ways so that we can advance what we know about gender and gender inequality.”

Glass, a USU sociology professor, said it is about learning to understand gender in today’s world.

“One of the things we need to do as researchers and teachers is we need to make sure that our students are prepared to engage in the incredibly complex world that they will confront when they graduate. I think the center is a really important piece for how Utah State prepares our students.”

Glass said the new center will build the successful history of the university’s Center for Women and Gender which closed recently.

She said it will provide a broader focus on issues at the intersection of identities such as gender and gender identity, race, class, sexual orientation, nationality and disability.

I was thinking this sounded like a really stupid idea and a waste of time. However now that I think about it, taking student money and providing them with nothing valuable in return is in fact the smartest thing a university could do. Kudos to USU for creating more ways to generate wealth for themselves.

I hope they include in their curriculum the move ‘Kindergarten Cop’. There is one line by a 5 year old boy that sums it up perfectly. Don’t know the line, watch the move it will be self evident.
