PROVIDENCE – The Cache County Sheriff is reassuring citizens after an alleged sexual assault was investigated at a park in Providence. The incident was reported September 3 in the area of Von Baer Park.
In a press release, Sheriff Chad Jensen said deputies responded to the area after a 911 call was received. A large-scale effort, utilizing patrol deputies and investigators, was initiated in an effort to bring a swift resolution to the incident.
According to emergency radio traffic, the woman told 911 dispatch operators that she was attacked by a tall man with a beard. He allegedly pushed her down, tried to assault her and then flee.
She reportedly suffered scratches during the attack.
Jensen explained that after an extensive investigation though, and working with school and city officials, it was discovered that the incident was unfounded.
In lieu of charges being filed, investigators worked with the Cache County Attorney’s office and Victims’ Advocates to provide assistance to the alleged victim. She was reportedly suffering emotional stress due to an unrelated situation.
Jensen said they are relieved that no assault occurred in Tuesday’s incident. He also reassured the citizens of Providence City that they take all calls seriously.
