Car seat checkup is Thursday in Brigham City

BRIGHAM CITY – Safe Kids Bear River is hosting a car seat checkup event Thursday in Brigham City for parents and caregivers to help insure children are riding as safely as possible.

Allena Pierce is a Child Passenger Safety Technician with the Bear River Health Department.

”We will assess what their current car seat conditions are, if there are any suggestions we can make,” Pierce explains. “We check for recalls. We also, at this time, can offer some low-cost seats.

“We don’t normally have that option, but occasionally, a couple of times a year, we have grant funding that will allow us to purchase seats at a low cost and then pass that savings on to parents and guardians.”

Pierce says when adults are buckled in properly that sends a message to young people, even to little ones, that it is important.

”We do know when parents buckle up, children are generally also buckled up safely. The parents have that safety mindset. And so they’re better protected for themselves as well as their kids.”

Pierce says the car seat checkup event is Thursday from 4-6 p.m. in an Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints parking lot at 139 East 300 North in Brigham City.
