LOGAN — Law enforcement officers are looking for a 25-year-old Logan man suspected of multiple vehicle thefts, traffic accidents, and evading police.  They are asking for the public’s help locating Erasmo J. Garcia, who has a lengthy criminal history over the last several years.

Logan City Police Capt. Curtis Hooley said officers have tried to arrest Garcia.  Each time, he has reportedly fled in a vehicle or runaway on foot.

“At this point we are just worried, one that he might hurt somebody if we get into a vehicle pursuit with him,” said Hooley.  “And if he continues to steal cars, obviously that causes problems for our citizens.  So we would just like to take him into custody safely and as quickly as we can.”

Last year, Garcia escaped from custody, walking away from a jail work release program.  He was spotted days later in Hyrum and led deputies on a brief high-speed chase into Blacksmith Fork Canyon.  Garcia was later sentenced to serve six-months in jail.

Hooley said officers believe that Garcia might be hiding out in the area.

“I know Garcia has been seen in Logan.  He has been seen in Wellsville.  It could be anywhere in the valley at this point.”

Police warn that any person found to be aiding or harboring Garcia will also be investigated for obstruction of justice, unless they cooperate with his apprehension.

Hooley said if anyone has knowledge of Garcia’s whereabouts, contact Police Dispatch at 435-753-7555.
