Man dies in 4-wheeler crash in Logan Canyon

LOGAN — A 35-year-old man died Sunday in an ATV crash above Right Hand Fork Canyon.  The accident was reported around 4:30 p.m.

According to emergency radio traffic, the man along with his 6-year-old son were riding a 4-wheeler close to the top of Cowley Canyon.  He went over an embankment and down a 30 feet drop off, near where the canyon meets Left Hand Fork Canyon.

A group of people were riding ATVs nearby and found the man shortly after the crash.  He was unconscious but breathing.  He was also bleeding from a wound to his head.

Because of the lack of cellphone coverage in the area, a member of the group rode to a cabin in Left Hand Fork, where residents were able to call 911 and report the crash.

Search and Rescue teams along with paramedics were paged to the scene.  A medical helicopter was also requested because of the remote area.

When the first crews reached the crash they performed CPR and other lifesaving efforts on the man. Later, paramedics arrived and declared that he had succumbed to his injuries.

The 6-year-old boy was not hurt.

Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen said the Utah Department of Parks and Recreation is investigating the accident.

The victim’s identity is being withheld, pending notification of family and the investigation.
