It’s the Weekend: Dec. 5-8, 2019

The Christmas season is here! And there are a lot of great ways to get in the spirit this weekend.

TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY IN PROVIDENCE

Participate in decorating the Christmas tree, get free donuts and hot chocolate, and help raise money for The Family Place at a Tree Lighting Ceremony in Providence. Festivities begin at 5, Santa pays a visit at 5:30, and the tree on the roundabout on 100 North will be lit at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

WINTERSONGS

A selection of winter-themed choral songs will be performed at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Parish on Thursday. Wintersongs begins at 6 and it’s free.

HARDWARE RANCH SLEIGH RIDES

Ride on a horse-drawn sleigh and get up close with Rocky Mountain Elk at Hardware Ranch. It begins this Friday and continues every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through early February in Blacksmith Fork Canyon.

SANTA’S NORTH POLE EXTRAVAGANZA

Come visit Santa’s North Pole Village at Bridgerland Technical College on Friday from 4-8 p.m. Santa’s North Pole Extravaganza has numerous activities and little adventures at the main campus of Bridgerland Technical College.

WINTER GIFT MARKET

The Makers and the Givers come together to celebrate the “Art of Giving” for the holidays. The Winter Gift Market takes place Friday from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Carousel Ballroom at the Bullen Center. It’s all local, it’s all handmade.

TRI-STATE BAND FESTIVAL CONCERT

A Tri-State Band Symposium is happening this weekend at USU. As a bonus, the USU wind and percussion students will perform a unique concert in the Daines Concert Hall Friday at 8 p.m. It’s high-energy, fast paced and is highly entertaining for the whole family (plus it’s free!).

A CHRISTMAS CAROL

Four Seasons Theatre Company presents the Charles Dickens classic: A Christmas Carol. Watch the evolution of Ebenezer Scrooge on Friday at 7:30 in the Sky View High School Auditorium.

FORGOTTEN CAROLS – RE-IMAGINED

Two performances of Michael McLean’s Forgotten Carols will be on Saturday at Logan High. They’re at 2:30 and 7:30. After performing the Forgotten Carols for 28 years, McLean has re-imagined the carols and the stories surrounding them.

USU MEN’S BASKETBALL

It’s been a while since we’ve seen the USU men’s basketball team in the Spectrum, but they’ll be back on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Aggies face Fresno State in an early conference showdown.

NIGHT OF GIVING

Saturday night is a Night of Giving in Smithfield. Sponsored by the Smithfield Chamber of Commerce, the dinner and auction benefits local families in need this holiday season. Night of Giving takes place at Sky View High School Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

TINSEL AND TAILS SOIREE

The Cache Humane Society’s fabulous Tinsel and Tails Soiree is Saturday at the Riter Mansion. Doors open at 7 and festivities continue until 10:30. The evening includes live music, delicious drinks, dancing and opportunities to help the Cache Humane Society.
