LOGAN — An 87-year-old Logan man has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing two girls more than 15 years ago. Rex E. Cook was booked into the Cache County Jail briefly Saturday afternoon, following an investigation by Logan City police officers.

Cook made his initial appearance in 1st District Court Tuesday morning with his defense attorney, Roy Cole. He was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

Later, Cache County Deputy Attorney Dane Murray explained that officers began investigating Cook after the victims reported the abuse. It allegedly occurred in 2000 and 2004. Both girls were acquaintances of the suspect.

Cook did not speak during Tuesday’s arraignment. He was ordered to appear again in court January 23.

Judge Brian Cannell also followed a request from prosecutors and ordered Cook to have no contact with the alleged victims in the case.

Cook is currently out of jail. He could face up to life in prison if convicted.
