Bear River High School receives threat

GARLAND – A student that did not attend the Bear River High School probably thought he was being funny when he sent a prank on social media with a threat to the school.

The prank went south when the Tremonton Police contacted the person.

Chief Kurt Fertig, Chief of Police for Tremonton City, said they were notified of a threat to the high school.

“The person sent a Snapchat picture of himself with a weapon and told the kids not go to school,” Fertig said. “It was a joke. The weapon was fake and it appears it was a joke.”

No charges were filed, the Police Chief said.

The incident caused Principal AJ Gilmore to send a letter to parents of the threat:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The FBI and Snapchat alerted Tremonton Police of a potential threat this morning. This threat did not come from a Bear River High Student. Law enforcement has been to the house and determined there is no credible threat or potential issues related to our school. Even so, we will have extra police presence and security at our building today.

Please continue to help us be aware and diligent about looking out for each other and working together to keep everybody safe. Great communities, like ours, work together!

Thanks,
BRHS Admin – Mr. Gilmore, Mr. B, Mr. Chournos
