Third coronavirus case detected in Cache County

LOGAN – Included in the Utah Department of Health’s Monday update of coronavirus cases — which now total 257 in Utah — is a new confirmed case in Cache County involving an individual over 60 years of age.

That brings to four the total of COVID-19 cases in the Bear River Health District (BRHD), one in Box Elder County and three in Cache County.

BRHD spokesperson Holly Budge said the new Cache County patient is currently hospitalized. She said the new patient appears to have been exposed to the virus while traveling.

Consistent with BRHD policy, individuals who may have had close contact with confirmed cases will be notified by the health department.

Monday’s UDOH report indicated 5,048 people in Utah have been tested for the coronavirus. State epidemiologist Angela Dunn said University of Utah Health confirmed it would be able to conduct up to 1,500 tests in a day in a drive-thru system.

She said there are types of gatherings that should be avoided because of the pandemic and that the mass welcoming of Latter-day Saint missionaries at Salt Lake International Airport Sunday was regrettable.

Please provide more information about the 3 cases of COVID-19 in Cache Valley. How are they being quarantined. In asia they are removing people from their families and quarantining them in a facility to prevent spreading the disease. Is that happening now? How will people who were exposed to them be identified and notified? I understand that in Asia, they are using a person’s GPS tracking on their phone to identify where they have been since infection.

What do you mean “traveler.” I wish the reports could be more specific. Have they been out of Cache Valley, out of state, out of the U.S., etc. It’s nerve racking when you see the virus close to home and wondering if you or your loved ones have come in contact. I understand respecting privacy, but I think the public deserves more information, such as what public places they’ve visited prior to an official diagnosis.

Why is it not mandatory for everyone to have their hands and faces covered when they are around other people outside of their houses..must have face masked and hands gloved before entering any building and when around other people..and start the disinfection process asap.. Because social distance wont stop it from spreading especially when peoples mouths are uncovered,

Do health workers have sufficient masks, gloves, gowns etc in Cache Valley? I know more about large US cities than I do about Logan and Cache Valley.
