The fourth case of coronavirus found in Cache County

LOGAN – The Bear River Health Department Tuesday announced the fifth case of coronavirus within the department’s three-county district. It is the fourth in Cache County with the other in Box Elder County.

The latest case involves an individual between 18-60 years old. Citing HIPAA rules, the health department could not be more specific in identifying the individual. BRHD spokesperson Holly Budge said the case is travel-related and the person is now isolated at home.

All five confirmed cases in the Bear River Health District have been recorded in the last week and all resulted from travel exposure.

Comments from the community to BRHD through social media indicate many are concerned Cache County residents are not taking the pandemic seriously enough.

“The Bear River Health Department is urging the community to take the Governor’s orders seriously,” said Budge. “We all must do our part to reduce the spread of the disease.

“Daily we receive feedback from citizens who are concerned that many individuals and businesses feel they are immune to the disease. We must take responsible actions to protect ourselves and others.”

Health officials have prescribed the practice of social distancing and staying home, leaving only for essential reasons.

Those with questions about testing for the coronavirus are encouraged to talk to their health care provider.

The BRHD’s involvement begins when tests come back positive which triggers an investigative process.

Local Intermountain Healthcare spokesperson Sarah Beth Fitzgerald said the North Cache Valley Instacare provides a drive through facility for COVID-19 testing. She said the ER is available for testing but is primarily for urgent cases.

“You do need to call beforehand, before you get tested,” said Fitzgerald. “It’s really a matter of safety for us because we need to be prepared to receive anybody who is eventually a COVID-19 patient and making sure we have a heads up that our caregivers have the proper personal protective equipment to receive a potential COVID-19 positive.”

18-60 yrs old? That’s laughable, And then they wonder why the public is in a panic. Report facts, not vague maybes.

How can we trust information from websites like this, It’s their jobs to give us accurate information they dont even know their age or do they not want us knowing and thats worse.

It’s called privacy of the individual and their family. The news nor healthcare system is required to report the sick individual’s age or name to you. The information they are giving you is not inaccurate nor are they hiding the facts. They are respecting a person’s personal boundaries while alerting the public to a fourth case. You have no need to know the person at this point in time, you don’t deserve to know. There is a good chance they don’t know because a doctor couldn’t give them that information. Don’t come here thinking they owe you the personal information of an actual human who is already dealing with a scary situation without adding the harassment of the public. Be respectful of that person’s space and privacy.

No one asked for their name? Don’t want to know who the person is nor did I ASK for their name(READ THE COMMENT BEFORE YOU SPEW INACCURACIES YOURSELF). I merely stated that BRHD wants to give a very big age gap. BRHD reported the age, therefore leaving themselves wide open. They could narrow it down +/- 10 years. Releasing the age has nothing to do with violating a person’s identity!! So don’t come here expecting to be a keyboard warrior ?. P.S. The health department does now exact age, it has to be reported to them by the Drs, hospitals etc. No different if theyve had Influenza A.

I think age would be helpful, it would help to quell panic. Just such a big age span they reported is curious to me.

Common sense hygiene. Remember to wash your hands. When you are wondering if you should go out in public ask yourself who you may infect as a result. Stay safe and healthy!

    Craig,
What measures are being used to identify and locate those people at risk of infection after having contact with these four infected individuals? Who is doing the contacting?
