County fair and rodeo to proceed minus carnival

CACHE COUNTY – The 141st Cache County Fair and Rodeo will be held minus one traditional attraction in early August.

Event organizers confirmed Thursday that there will be no carnival rides set up at the county fairground during the four-day event from Wednesday, Aug. 5 to Saturday, Aug. 8.

County Executive Craig Buttars had warned members of the Cache County Council on Tuesday that cancellation of the carnival portion of the event was likely due to the coronavirus pandemic. As a result of the cancellation of similar and subsequent events in northern Utah and Idaho, the contractor who normally provides the carnival rides can no longer financially afford to participate in the Cache County Fair.

While speaking to council members, Buttars also clarified that the Bear River Health Department has neither approved nor endorsed the 141st Cache County Fair and Rodeo. The executive stressed that the decision to go ahead with the fair and rodeo was made by jointly by county officials and the event organizers.

We do not require the approval of BRHD to hold this event,” Buttars explained, “… their role will be merely to help us meet statewide guidelines for public gatherings.”

The annual event will kick off with the first night of the PRCA Rodeo at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5 at the county fairgrounds, located at 490 South, 500 West in Logan. Rodeo events will continue nightly through Saturday, Aug. 8.

Fair events will begin on Thursday, Aug. 6, including vendor booths, local entertainment and the band Little Texas performing on Saturday evening.

Seating for the rodeo will be limited to ensure adequate social distancing and people attending the fair are encouraged to wear face masks.

And about 3-4 weeks afterwards , the AFTERMATH of infection should be seen….

    • Prince Albert July 18, 2020 at 9:24 am Reply

According to the CDC it should be two weeks. If you’re going to be a sheep use the correct lie you are fed.

And if you are royalty, please clue us in as to how you know we are being fed lies? After all it isn’t Trump giving this information (who has told us he has saved “millions of lives”.

I cannot believe this is even going to be a thing! For the sake of tradition and normalcy, there will surly be grave repercussions! Life is NEVER going back to the way it was! Our world, local and world wide, is forever changed! This event should most definitely not happen and I lost all respect for Mr. Poulson, after reading his interview on the matter!

What a depressing, hopeless life you must live. I’m trying not to laugh at you, but I can’t help it

No, that person is just realistic!, And not IGNORANT AND INCOMPETENT like yourself

I won’t even try to not laugh at you. Your comments are downright childish. You must have such internal problems, to feel the need to tear others down. There is a difference between expressing an opinion, and talking just to berate others. Shame.

As far as the rodeo goes… IRRESPONSIBLE! SELFISH! Those in charge, you only see $$$$, has nothing to do with “the community needs a rodeo” as stated in an earlier article. And as “leaders” I would expect you to be willing to stand up to the outside noise and pressure and admit its not a responsible decision. Listen to this… the earlier article states… “We are doing everything possible to make the fair and rodeo as safe for everybody who attends” then in the same breath saying masks are not required, and if you go to the website to purchase tickets for rodeo it says seating is not being restricted for social distancing, so my question is what is being done? It says EVERYTHING POSSIBLE, thats seems to be a lie, there is a lot more thats possible. Seems to be NOTHING is being done that will actually help. Please tell us what is being done? I love the cache county rodeo, if you were trying to make adjustments that actually showed that you cared, like social distancing seating, encouraging masks, asking health questions, etc then maybe I wouldn’t be writing this. But the fact is you dont seem to care about anyone but yourself. The crappy thing about this virus is its no respector of persons, so because of the actions of the irresponsible and selfish there will be many innocent that made the choice to stay away that will suffer the consequences of suffering and maybe even death (I hope not). And thats on your heads. It would be nice if only those affected would be those that make the decision to go to the rodeo, but that wont be the case. I invite you to consider these thoughts and those lives you are putting at risk for your own gain.

When I read your comments out loud, it sounds like “blah blah blah blah”. It’s a really annoying sound

      • S July 17, 2020 at 6:21 pm Reply

Not as annoying as having to admit that we live among people like you

      • Bo July 18, 2020 at 11:52 am Reply

C’mon man, comments like this aren’t going to get you anywhere, and it’s certainly not going to help anyone understand your point of view. You’re only making yourself, and people who might share your opinion (if you had formed one properly), look like a mean hearted idiot.

Sounds like Blayne is unable to hear anything he doesn’t agree with, just an observation. I’m guessing that if he has a constructive response he would make it known so he must not. I think the rodeo contestants can, with some effort, compete safely, gonna be tough for the spectators do do the same!

Blayne is 50% of America. A sad reality. Void of critical thinking skills. A childlike joy in being obstinate. He joylessly lives his life hoping that the failures and unhappiness of others will somehow make up for his own failures and shortcomings. He lives in a fairy tale where he BELIEVES what he is TOLD instead of using deductive logic. And, like I said, there are lots of Blaynes out there. Our country somehow, at some point, stopped evolving and took a step back to the cavemen.

Make fire Blayne. Bang on sticks. Draw in your cave. Pull hair. Blayne!

Oh Blayne, you’re only proving them right.

  • Jessica P July 17, 2020 at 4:50 pm Reply

This is really sad. Is this a money thing? Why do we keep driving to the edge?
Everyone wants to move past Coronavirus but then we make stupid choices like this.
When will it be enough? When we have huge numbers of cases and a lot of dead people.
Are people so selfish and unable to manage their personal time, that they can’t have a life without risking the lives of others?

Yes, it is a money thing. WIth nothing happening in the events center this spring/summer, the Fair may be the only fundraiser this year.

The deaths have dropped significantly. It’s no different then the flu. Why put your life on hold and live in fear? We never did that for the flu. There is medicine if taken early. The news does a good job keeping the world scared but when you start looking at numbers life is still extremely safe and should be enjoyed. Best in the sun to get your vitamin D. There is lots that can be done to have a strong immune system. You just won’t read about it in the news.

      • AR July 19, 2020 at 5:33 pm Reply

I really wish people would look up the flu numbers. This is FAR deadlier than the flu. The flu has on average 36,000 deaths in America each year. Some tears are slightly worse and some are slightly less for an average of 36,000. In only a few months covid in the US has killed over 130,000 people. That’s not any news station or articles that’s just looking up the numbers. So from this stand point, how is this “no different” as you say?

    CITY LEADERS NEED VOTED OUT

    • Prince Albert July 18, 2020 at 9:34 am Reply

What city leaders are you talking about? It’s the county council. Jesus, did you even read the article? If you had you would’ve known that. Definitely an “intelligent” basement Biden voter.

  • Pablo July 18, 2020 at 7:35 am Reply

Totally irresponsible to hold a spectator event like a rodeo. We are in a worse position now than we were in May. Time to realize that every effort must be made by all of us to reduce rate of infection until an vaccine is a reality. Despite Trump’s claims, it is not going to “just go away”. Viruses require a host to live and infect, we have to deprive it of a suitable host.

Terrifying innocent animals is NOT entertainment and I, like many, do not support the rodeo. I recall the horror of being there last year as I watched baby goats being tied-up for the roping competition. These animals were terrified as they watched horses running towards them at seemlingly warp-speeed, then having a person dismount to tie them up. None of the pens had adequate water and all the animals were crying. Unfortunately too, the bulls who had their testicles pinched in order to make them buck, were a pitiful sight. It’s true that the pandemic and all major health issues of the country / world can be attributed to our mistreatment of animals. Our suffering and death are well-deserved. Please do your part in changing the dynamic by eating a plant-based diet and by boycotting rodeos, zoos (city and road-side). Also, please be sure to adopt companion animals via your local humane society / rescue groups.
