Another view of Logan’s mandated mask ordinance

LOGAN — Back on August 1st, Logan City issued an executive order that any individual within the city who is age five and over and “able to medically or psychologically tolerate a face covering shall be required to wear a face covering that completely covers the nose and mouth in public areas where consistent social distancing of at least six feet is not possible, reasonable or prudent.”

A couple weeks ago on KVNU’s For the People program, during an interview with Cache G.O.P. chairman Chris Booth, the issue of mandatory mask wearing came up. On Monday’s program, Booth returned with Cache County Council member Paul Borup. While acknowledging that mask wearing can reduce the spread of the virus, he said it is really up to businesses to provide a safe environment for their patrons.

“You give the business the tools to do that. Even with the mandate, and I’ve personally watched it – I own a business, I talk to business owners – even with this mandate, now you have people coming in and saying ‘hey business how are you going to enforce this mandate? It’s a mandate, why aren’t you harassing that client.’

“That puts the business in a tough situation with the mandate where, again, the business could say ‘hey, we highly encourage wearing a mask or masks are required,’“ he said.

Borup said when it’s left up to businesses and it’s down in writing, if you’re a good citizen, you realize it is private property and you should respect that establishment’s decision to put the mask requirement in place for their business. But he said as soon as the government starts to enforce that on people it’s problematic.

Because there is ample evidence that cigarette smoke sickens many who inhale it, smokers are not allowed to foul the air in public places.

Coronavirus sickens many who inhale it; additionally coronavirus spreads exponentially if unchecked.

No one has a constitutional right to endanger others.

There is ample evidence that the wearing of masks reduces risk.

If people won’t wear masks voluntarily, a mask mandate–with consequences–is appropriate.

Covid kills. Children are not immune. Protect our community.

Are you a relative of Adolph Hitler? I am quite sure you are, you sound just like him.

You live your life as you see it, and I will do the same. We used to have this old saying here in America until the feminists and liberals showed up. It goes like this…

“The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave”

I hope no one takes advice from “Dr.” Free Dumb here.

Last time I checked those feminist and liberals opinions count just as much as yours does. Please tell me who one the popular vote in our last presidential election. I know we live in a republic, but there are about to be way more of them than you and I.

Point of clarification – I acknowledged that certain types of masks, properly fitted and worn correctly, can reduce droplet transmission. We were discussing the recently published Duke University findings.

There is little data to show the efficacy of masks outside of healthcare settings. There is consensus around appropriate physical distancing, hand washing, and good respiratory hygiene in mitigating the spread of a pandemic virus.

It is interesting that this country used to encourage and allow civil debate on several issues. We now have one side trying to silence anyone who disagrees? Why? There are a group of Drs. that know how to effectively treat the wuflu (that’s where it comes from) with no deaths. Why are they silenced? Why? They should be treated as heroes! What’s wrong with this picture? Why? Why?

Are you talking about Dr. demon sperm? That video is just plain quackery. I heard that main lining meth will prevent the fatigue that goes along with covid 19. I strongly suggest that you follow those Dr.’s advice who have gained your trust. I personally tune out any medical or finical advice that is sponsored by a political party. Last time I checked Floraduh, really had their virus under control. Maybe you should volunteer for the sputnik vaccine.

Why are we still debating this? The great and powerful queen Daines has already added a month to everybody’s life! Bunch of ungratefuls

I avoid doing business in stores that don’t strongly encourage mask wearing.

This guy is an idiot. I turn around and go elsewhere if a shop owner allows people in without a mask on. Selfish greed is all it is.

I would encourage you to not put yourself in dangerous breathing environments. The reduction in oxygen intake caused by wearing masks is dangerous. No one seems to consider the science. Research the effects of Hypoxia caused by reduced oxygen intake. Prolonged low oxygen causes permanent organ damage. That is why you see so many senior citizens using oxygen concentrators. I shop in Brigham to avoid the mask mandate. I believe in freedom of choice. If you are fearful then wear your mask. I wish you well, but I choose to not join you in your fear. However, I expect the same respect from you that I give you.

Richard I as well would encourage you to read and study up on hypoxia and wearing a mask. Then you would stop spreading false information about it. Putting a plastic bag over your head and closing it can cause it and kill you. Wearing a cloth mask made of BREATHABLE material cannot. Surgeons and nurses wear them all day, no hypoxia.
So far the only exception and warning is for those diagnosed with severe asthma and wearing them for extended periods of time. And this is information cited from the American lung Association, the Mayo clinic as well as several healthcare networks.

    Richard,

Your argument makes no sense. So the surgeons who operate on people may just kill over because they are wearing a mask. The construction workers, painters, and farmers who wear the N95 mask are putting themselves in danger of hypoxia. Really, then what about some of those crazy Marines, and Mma folks who run literally run miles while wearing a gas mask. Last time that I checked all of these people were not going into organ failure, due to lack of oxygen. I honestly have never heard of one. Maybe it is a government conspiracy.

Secondly this is not a Kant v. Mills debate. If you would take the time to read “On Liberty” even John Stewart Mills would say wear the mask. Every time I read something like this I wonder why I dedicated my life to public service. You have no concept of what the term “citizen” means. You are Baaing like a sheep. Please read the treatise “On Liberty” and then the U.S. Constitution. I mean actually read a few sentences and then stop and ponder what they are actually saying. Keep going until there are no more words. You might just learn something.
