Logan mask education program coming soon

An educational program approved by the Loghan City Council to promote the wearing of face coverings is set to begin shortly after Labor Day.

LOGAN – The City of Logan’s educational campaign to promote the wearing of face coverings will begin shortly after the Labor Day holiday, according to city council member Jess Bradfield.

We will have a friendly, fun, professional and goal-oriented campaign,” Bradfield told other members of the municipal council during their regular meeting on Sept. 1. “It’s coming along and should be up and running by next week.”

The pro-mask educational program is the centerpiece of a kinder, gentler mask policy approved by the city council members on Aug. 18. That policy took effect on Aug. 31, replacing a strict 30-day mask mandate imposed by Mayor Holly Daines on Aug. 1.

Bradfield said that the education program will include public service announcements promoting the wearing of face coverings via print media, radio and social media, plus awards to businesses that encourage their customers to follow COVID-19 precautions.

Like Logan’s original mask mandate, the resolution passed by the city council on Aug. 18 requires local residents and visitors older than the age of five to wear face coverings whenever consistent social distancing of at least six feet is not possible, reasonable or prudent. What distinguishes the council resolution from the previous executive order is the lack on any enforcement provisions.

Although Daines pledged that her mask mandate would not be enforced punitively, her executive order could technically have resulted in either administrative or criminal citations for repeated or flagrant violations.

“A resolution cannot mandate action in the same manner as an ordinance or emergency declaration …” according to Amy Z. Anderson, the chair of the Logan City Council. “We believe that by providing information to our community on how to help prevent the spread (of the coronavirus) – including all activities, including wearing a mask – we can keep schools open, businesses open and our healthcare system able to meet the demands of cases.

We would hope other cities will also join in encouraging their citizens to do all they can to help.”

Since the city council resolution took effect on Aug. 31, the Bear River Health Department has reported a total of 73 new COVID-19 cases in Cache County, for an average of about 18 per day. But only three county residents are now hospitalized with the disease.

In addition to promoting mask-wearing, Bradfield said that the city’s education initiative will “congratulate the successful effort of Cache Valley residents … to mitigate coronavirus, reward behaviors that continue to lower case counts and recognize and reward businesses that exemplify the behaviors that have led to Cache Valley’s success against the coronavirus.”

The masks are useless. When are they going to read the literature on them? Will this foolishness ever end?

I guess nobody in Utah is reading the CDC news. There is no need for masks. Covid is not a pandemic. They got the case numbers wrong. Like 90% are false positives. This mask education is a clown show, don’t go for it. Hang up your mask and enjoy life.

Is this “education” going to include the multitude of studies that show masks do not stop the spread of VIRUSES. One could argue they have an affect on bacteria but bacteria and viruses are not equal. Will they educate them on the dangers of wearing a mask during play and exercise? That it lowers the bodies oxygen intake and puts added stress on the heart?? Is it going to include a section on the bacteria that grows on a damp warm mask that you then put next to your face?? Here’s the thing, not wearing a mask has nothing to do with politics everything to do with knowing the science.

What a colossal waste of taxpayer money. The die is cast guys either people are going to wear them or not. You will not change anyone’s mind. It’s been mind numbingly shoved down our throats for months now, and not a thing you say will change anyone’s mind.

These comments should why “mask education” is pointless. If people don’t understand by now–seven months or more into a pandemic– that they are putting other peoples’ lives in danger by not wearing masks, they will never open their minds. They simply don’t care. I hope they can “enjoy life” while endangering mine.

If you see A person not wearing a mask do us a favor and stay from us, we don’t want you sick freaks near us. Liberalism and face masks are a mental disorder. Volunteering to wear a diaper on your face is disgusting behavior. Wear them proud, while we laugh at the fools.

Do you feel your life is in danger because of the flu every year? The covid numbers are less than the flu. No need to tax your body with the energy of fear, it will make you sick.

The Covid-19 numbers are not less than the flu. In the 2019-2020 flu season, up to 62,000 Americans died as a result of the seasonal flu. The CDC ( https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#cases), and John Hopkins (coronavirus.jhu.edu/), just two of many well respected public health specialists tracking the disease, have recorded that more than 188,000 Americans have died from, Covid-19. The belief that as much as 1% of that number may be mischaracterized as Covid-19 victims.

Anyone making statements on the details of Covid-19 should be responsible enough to state their source for the information they present publically. Anything else is nothing but hearsay and can be dismissed.
