39 COVID deaths in Utah since Friday, 4 in Northern Utah

LOGAN – Among the 39 new COVID-19 deaths reported Monday by the Utah Department of Health (UDOH), two are men and a woman from Cache County  plus a man from Box Elder County. The report includes 23 people who died before Jan. 14.

One of the Cache County men was between 65-84 years of age, the other between 45-64, while the female was between 45-64 years of age. The Box Elder County man was 65-84 and he was the only one of the four who was hospitalized at the time of death.

With Monday’s deaths included 4,300 Utahns have lost their lives to the coronavirus. The updated list of Utah’s total COVID deaths during the pandemic includes 217 from Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties.

There were 3,128 new cases included in the weekend total of new coronavirus positives, which is an average of just over 1,000 a day, with 1,357 on Friday, 1,121 on Saturday and 660 Sunday. That leaves Utah’s  new rolling seven-day average for positive tests at 1,466 each day.

With the new weekend numbers included, the total of coronavirus cases during more than 23 months of the pandemic is 914,028.

As of Monday 561 people are hospitalized statewide with COVID — 73 fewer than Friday — while 123 of those patients are in intensive care, 35 fewer than on Friday. Over 75 percent of the state’s ICU beds were filled Monday.

The Bear River Health Department (BRHD) reported 33 new coronavirus cases since Friday. To date, 50,817 residents of Utah’s three northern Utah counties have contracted the virus. There have been 1,949 hospitalized in the district over the course of the pandemic. As of Monday 58 percent of the district’s residents are fully vaccinated and 69 percent have received at least one dose.

The state’s rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “people over people” is 30.4 percent while the rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “tests over tests,” is 17.9 percent.

Through the weekend there were 11,302 Utahns vaccinated and now almost 61 percent of Utah’s total population is fully vaccinated.

As of Monday 4,552 Idahoans have lost their lives to the virus. Idaho’s total is now 403,137 confirmed COVID-19 cases statewide. Case counts in the three counties in southeast Idaho include 2,285 positive cases in Franklin County, 895 in Bear Lake County and 777 in Oneida County.
