LOGAN — An event that is geared for step-families is being offered by the Healthy Relationships office through Utah State University Extension.

It’s called Smart Steps for Stepfamilies a FREE 7-week course, and on KVNU’s For the People program on Wednesday, program coordinator Shauntell Kanigan said all families face some challenges.

“But on the stepfamilies, they might have extra in-laws and they have other significant others in this combination that do add a little bit more complications that we help and give tools for. Just to help people out to be more successful.”

She said they are making the class very easy to attend with different class times and dates to fit different schedules.

“We typically offer seven to ten different classes a month and they are online, they are in-person at libraries from Centerville down to St. George. We also offer at two of our agencies, we partner with them, and they teach the whole family. That is a really cool place, they have one at the Family Place in Logan and the Family Support and Treatment Center of Ogden.”

Kanigan said they will teach the adults, but also have a watered down version to assist teens and younger kids. And it’s all free. To find out more go to HealthyRelationshipsUtah.org.
