94 new positive COVID cases found in Utah Tuesday with 5 recorded deaths

Tuesday’s COVID report from the Utah State Department of Health (UDOH) indicates 94 new positive coronavirus cases and five deaths statewide .

Utah’s COVID death count for the entire pandemic is 4,550, including 236 from northern Utah.

Those hospitalized in Utah with COVID dropped from 197 to 187 while 38 COVID patients are in intensive care units, one fewer than Monday. There are 513 ICU beds in hospitals across Utah and the UDOH said about 63 percent of them are filled, but only 12 percent of those are COVID-19 patients.

Since the start of the pandemic the state has recorded 925,966 positive coronavirus cases. The total northern Utah case count is almost 52,000 while more than 2,000 in the district have been hospitalized during the pandemic.

UDOH reported that in the last 28 days, people who are unvaccinated are at five times greater risk of dying from COVID-19, 2.1 times greater risk of being hospitalized due to COVID-19, and 2.0 times greater risk of testing positive for COVID-19 than vaccinated people.

The number of Utahns fully vaccinated is 1,992,797 which is over 61 percent of the state’s total population. Nearly five million doses have been administered statewide and that includes 2,060 doses since Monday.

More than 59 percent of northern Utah residents are totally vaccinated and almost 257,000 total doses have been administered in the Bear River Health District.

There were 2,056 Utahns tested since Monday which means over 4.97 million people have been tested and over 9.3 million total tests have been administered.

Utah’s new rolling seven-day average for positive tests is down to 166 a day.

The new seven-day rolling average for percent positivity of “people over people” is 5.8 percent while the rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “tests over tests” is 3.7 percent.

Idaho’s Tuesday COVID update indicates 4,819 coronavirus deaths and the new total of confirmed COVID-19 cases is 439,928 statewide. New case counts in the three southeast Idaho counties include 2,330 cases with 29 COVID deaths in Franklin County, 909 and 15 deaths in Bear Lake County and 798 cases with 11 COVID deaths in Oneida County.
