Metal beams cause traffic delays on Logan’s Main Street; more delays planned

LOGAN – Four of the 12 girders for the 100 West bridge were delivered today. Each time one of the large metal beams reached downtown Logan with police escorts, traffic was diverted off of Main Street between 200 North and 600 South. The beams arrived in Logan during the middle of the day, creating traffic delays on the city’s side streets.

The trucks and trailers carrying the girders require a lot of space to make their turns, therefore requiring that the intersections of 200 North Main and 600 South Main be completely shut down. Traffic is able to move along while the vehicles are moving in a straight line.

According to Logan City officials, four more girders will be delivered on Wednesday and the last four will be delivered Thursday. The timing of when the large metal beams arrive in downtown Logan is not immediately known.

The girders are arriving via Hwy 30 (200 North) then will head south on Main St. from 200 North, then west on 600 South. The stretch of road between Main Street and 600 South will be closed as a crews will use the street as a staging area while they work to place the beams over the Logan River.

The city is building a new bridge at 100 West 600 South over the Logan River that will extend the street all the way south to where it intersects with Highway 89/91 (approximately 1100 South).
