DEWEYVILLE — Fire fighters were called out to extinguish a straw stack fire at the Bingham Dairy in Deweyville. The blaze was reported around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night.

Box Elder County Fire Marshal Corey Barton said the fire was threatening several building when crews arrived on scene. It was also difficult getting enough water to manage the fire because the closest fire hydrant was more than 1000 feet away.

Firefighters from the Central Box Elder Fire District were joined by crews from Box Elder County, Corinne and Tremonton. They set up a relay pumping operation and were able to get enough water to extinguish the fire.

Barton said there was one minor injury to a firefighter when part of the stack started to fall but they were able to be treated on scene.

Initial evidence suggests the fire started when embers from a controlled burn landed in the straw.

The fire was contained about 2:30 a.m., and cleanup was completed about 4:30 a.m.
