Logan man arrested after allegedly assaulting woman and restraining her

LOGAN — A 29-year-old Logan man is facing kidnapping and other charges after police reported he restrained a woman against her will Tuesday. Gray Peter was later booked into the Cache County Jail, where he is being held without bail.

According to an arrest affidavit, Peter called the Logan City Police Department, claiming his roommate had taken keys to his apartment. He said they had gotten into a fight and he had taken her cellphone, passport and debit card.

Police noticed Peter was holding a beer can during their questioning. He was also slurring his words and had the odor of alcohol coming from his person.

Officers later contacted the alleged victim at a friend’s residence. She stated that during the argument, Peter slapped her across the face, leaving a small cut above her lip. He then got on top of her, holding her down and telling her not to leave.

The woman stated that she began to scream for help and was able to get free and escape.

Peter was arraigned in 1st District Court during a virtual hearing Wednesday afternoon, appearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with kidnapping, a second-degree felony; unlawful acquisition of a financial card, a third-degree felony; and misdemeanors for assault, theft and possession of another’s identity.

Judge Brian Cannell refused to grant Peter bail. He said the suspect posed a danger to the alleged victim and was a flight risk.

Peter was ordered to appear again in court July 20. He could face up to 15 years in prison, if convicted.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
