LOGAN — A 27-year-old Logan man with a lengthy criminal history is going to serve more jail time after pleading guilty to new crimes. Steven W. Amaya-Wences was ordered to serve another year in jail after accepting a plea deal earlier this year.
Amaya-Wences was sentenced Monday morning in 1st District Court. He previously pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, a third-degree felony; and four misdemeanors for assault, reckless driving, criminal mischief and operating a vehicle without an interlock devise.
Judge Spencer Walsh sentenced Amaya-Wences to one year behind bars but gave credit for 214 days already served. He threatened to send the defendant to prison, telling him the drinking and driving has got to stop.
Amaya-Wences has already served a year in jail previously.
In August 2019, Amaya-Wences took a vehicle from his girlfriend, without her knowledge. He drove to a nearby convenience store, where security camera video caught him stealing more than $1,000 in merchandise.
Amaya-Wences left the store and crashed the car nearby. When officers investigated, they found the stolen items inside.
