LOGAN — A 20-year-old Logan man is in jail after police claim he sexually assaulted a teenage girl while she was at a sleepover. Daniel Ezequel Ruiz was booked Thursday into the Cache County Jail.
Ruiz was arraigned Friday morning in 1st District Court, appearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.
Cache County Deputy Attorney Josh Nemeth said the incident allegedly took place on May 13. The alleged victim, a 13-year-old girl said she was spending the night at her friend’s house. During the night, Ruiz laid down behind her and sexually assaulted her, while placing his hands over her mouth.
Ruiz didn’t talk about the allegations during the brief hearing. He was seen, shaking his head as Nemeth described the charges.
Judge Spencer Walsh assigned Ruiz a public defender and ordered him to remain in jail until attorneys could review the evidence in the case.
Ruiz is scheduled to appear again in court August 1. He could face up to life in prison, if convicted.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
