Hyrum man arrested for allegedly trying to run over two people

LOGAN — A 23-year-old Hyrum man who was previously arrested for threatening a Logan woman has been arrested again for allegedly trying to run down several family members in an SUV. Dennis E. Goodwin was booked Wednesday night into the Cache County Jail.

According to an arrest affidavit, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a Hyrum home around 10 p.m. The complainant had reported a white Chevy Trailblazer attempted to hit two individuals and then sped off.

One of the alleged victims claimed Goodwin was the sole occupant of the vehicle. They described being at the suspect’s house several times earlier in the evening, attempting to de-escalate an ongoing domestic violence issue.

The alleged victim told deputies that the second time he was there, Goodwin had been drinking and making several threats of violence.

A short time after leaving the suspect’s house, the alleged victim said he was sitting at his residence when he heard tires screeching and went outside. That is when they witnessed the Trailblazer speeding toward a second alleged victim, who was standing on the side of the road. The individual had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit, according to the affidavit.

The SUV then turned around at the end of the street and proceeded to drive at a high rate of speed in the direction of another family member. At the last second, the vehicle swerved and missed hitting them, before fleeing the area.

Deputies found Goodwin later at his home, where the Trailblazer was also located. He was booked into jail on suspicion aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; and making a threat of violence, a class B misdemeanor.

In January, Goodwin was arrested for allegedly threatening a woman that he would hunt her down, kill her and cover himself in her blood. Prosecutors later charged him with several felonies for possession of a dangerous weapon and stalking. He has pleaded not guilty. The case has yet to go to trial.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

Here is a prime example of what unfettered growth brings. In reality this gentleman is really a nice guy, but he had to run up to North Logan. The stress from the drive up and down 89 did this. This is the city of Logans fault.

None, but that doesn’t fuel the perpetual outrage that some people need to feel.

First and foremost, I am the ALLEGED victim in this case, this article is full of lies and manipulation, printed to gain community support to bolster the prosecutors case! If and when this is resolved I will be more then happy to tell you the true dirt! I have filed a complaint with the Cache County Sheriffs office and made a written request for any and all body cam, written reports and phone calls. This is not personal for anyone but my son and my family! Journalists and Officers, they can say what they want but no one not a single officer took any statement from me!
