LOGAN — A motorcycle rider died Thursday after crashing in Logan Canyon, US-89. The accident occurred around 5:10 p.m. at mile post 473, near Logan Cave.

According to emergency radio traffic, the motorcycle appeared to lose control and strike the cable barrier. The sole occupant was conscious and breathing but not alert.

First crews to arrive on the scene reported that passing motorists had stopped and attempted to provide first aid and later CPR until paramedics arrived on the scene.

The Utah Highway Patrol reports the motorcyclist, a 24-year-old man from Colorado, was travelling eastbound from Logan to Bear Lake.

Investigators believe that speed was a factor in the crash and caused the motorcyclist to lose control in the curve.

Logan City Police dispatch said the crash partially blocked both directions of the highway while crews investigated and cleared the accident.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The man’s identity has not been released, pending notification of family.
