Local and national sensation to perform at The Family Place Utah benefit concert

Kenadi Dodds

NORTH LOGAN — Saturday night, Aug. 6th at 7 p.m. at Green Canyon High School’s auditorium, The Family Place Utah continues their 40th year celebration with a benefit concert featuring local artist and America’s Got Talent finalist, Kenadi Dodds.

On KVNU’s For the People program on Tuesday, Associate Director Jennifer Anderson said it will be a big night.

“We are thrilled to have Kenadi, as you know, she’s from…Cache Valley. We feel like, here’s one of our very own families that we love, that represent all that we stand for in the community. A big part of The Family Place, as you know, is to strengthen families and to protect children. The Dodds’ have a beautiful story of positivity, resiliency, of hope, and we embody that,” Anderson explained.

She said that Kenadi and her band have generously agreed to do the concert to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

Kenadi herself was also on the program, and said music began for her at a young age.

My very first performance was my third grade talent show, and I sang ‘The Climb’ by Miley Cyrus and I played the piano. And before that, I didn’t even think about being a singer, I didn’t even know I could sing. When I was little I had perfect pitch, but I just never thought of it as ‘I’m going to be a singer when I grow up,’” she said.

Dodds said she was nine-years-old when she went to her first concert that featured country artist Shania Twain.

“Just watching her on stage and having people sing the words to her songs, and her energy, it just totally inspired me to want to do that. I’ve had a craving to be on stage ever since then, and I love watching documentaries of different artists like Taylor Swift and stuff, just to learn what they went through to get where they are today.”

From there she did talent shows at her schools and elsewhere and took part in competitions. Later, she sang the national anthem for Utah State games then for the Utah Jazz. Dodds said it’s just been a crazy roller coaster that’s been a lot of fun.

Tickets for the concert are $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under, go to TheFamilyPlaceUtah.org for more information. Tickets are also available at the door.
