Now 4,928 COVID deaths in Utah; 28 the last 7 days

With Utah approaching 5,000 COVID-19 fatalities the state reported another 28 deaths the last seven days as part of the Thursday report of updated statistics. It is 12 more than last week’s report.
Since March of 2020,f 4,928 Utahns have lost their lives to the virus.
Two of the deaths involved residents in the Bear River Health District — a Cache County woman and a Box Elder County man, both 85 years or older.
There have been 253 COVID COVID-19 deaths within the Bear River Health District, which includes Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties. Since the outbreak, almost 54,666 total positive cases have been found in the district, nearly 40,000 of them in Cache County.
There were 270 new cases in the district the last seven days and 68 percent of the northern Utah population (age 5+) has received at least one dose of the vaccine and 2,206 patients in northern Utah have been hospitalized with COVID. Utah’s Division of Health and Human Services reported 210 COVID patients in the state’s hospitals as of Thursday, including 33 in intensive care.
More than 5,000 new cases were reported in the last week and there have been 1,001,442 positive cases of COVID in Utah the last 28 months. The last seven days an average of 833 new cases were reported each day.
Just over two million Utahns are fully vaccinated — which is 63 percent of the population — and more than 974,000 have received at lease one booster shot.
Most of the current COVID-19 testing in Utah is done with home tests — which are not reported publicly.
Nearly 15,000 vaccine doses were administered the last seven days which brings the total doses administered in Utah to more than 5.3 million.
