North Logan man arrested for allegedly trying to strangle woman

LOGAN — A 23-year-old North Logan man has been arrested for allegedly trying to strangle a woman several times, according to law enforcement. Kaden Lee Otasua was booked Thursday into the Cache County Jail after police were called to a reported domestic dispute.

Otasua was arraigned Friday morning during a virtual hearing in 1st District Court, appearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony; obstructing justice, a second-degree felony; aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; and two misdemeanors.

Cache County Deputy Attorney Dane Murray said Otasua is believed to have assaulted the alleged victim on multiple occasions. She had injuries consistent with signs of strangulation and had to be treated at the hospital.

Officers with the Logan City Police Department also reported that Otasua allegedly tried to prevent the alleged victim from calling 911.

Otasua didn’t speak during the hearing, except to briefly request a public defender.

Murray asked the court to hold Otasua in jail without bail. He said the suspect “posed a danger to the community.”

Judge Spencer Walsh ordered Otasua to remain in jail while attorneys review evidence in the case. He ordered him to appear again in court Wednesday.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
