Man and woman arrested for allegedly making $30,000 in purchases on stolen credit cards

LOGAN — A 22-year-old West Jordan man and 19-year-old Cottonwood Heights woman have been arrested for allegedly making more than $30,000 in fraudulent purchases on a Logan woman’s credit cards. Austin Jeffery Giles and Galexy Mikkel Workman were booked into the Cache County Jail after police tracked their car to a mobile trailer.

According to an arrest report, the alleged victim called Logan City Police officers reporting her purse and financial cards had been taken from her vehicle. A personal debit card had been used to make $5,626 in purchases, while a business credit card was used for $26,469 in charges.

Police were able to locate camera footage of the burglary. The video showed a white Dodge Charger arriving at the incident address. A female matching Workman’s description excited the car, opened the victim’s vehicle and took the purse.

Additional videos were located from a local store. It allegedly showed both Workman and Giles using the stolen cards to make fraudulent purchases, the report described.

Officers later located the suspect’s vehicle parked outside a local mobile home. Workman and Giles allegedly admitted to using the victim’s cards and disposing of the stolen merchandise in another city.

Police obtained a warrant to search the mobile home. They located methamphetamine, marijuana, prescription medication, a handgun, drug paraphernalia and a scale.

Giles and Workman were arraigned Wednesday afternoon in 1st District Court. Both were charged with multiple offences, including felonies for unlawful use of a financial card and drug possession, and misdemeanor retail theft. Both were ordered to be held temporarily without bail and appear again in court next week. They could face up to 15 years in prison, if convicted.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

They steal 26 thousand dollars of merchandise and it is considered a misdemeanor. I thought anything over a thousand dollars was a felony.
    What am I missing.

Apparently, you’re missing the part where they were both charged with multiple felonies, including Unlawful Use of a Financial Card.
