Cache County man arrested for allegedly molesting girl during sleepover

LOGAN — A 38-year-old Cache County man has been arrested for molesting a young girl during a sleepover last month, according to law enforcement. Brandon Paul Burdett was booked Friday afternoon into the Cache County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment on formal charges.

According to an arrest report, the alleged victim’s father contacted Cache County Sheriff’s deputies in July, alleging his daughter had been sexually abused while attending an overnighter at another girl’s home. The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of July 30.

The girl was later interviewed at the Cache Children’s Justice Center. She told investigators how Burdett allegedly touched her inappropriately several times while they were watching TV.

The alleged victim confronted Burdett about the incident. He reportedly apologized for making her feel uncomfortable and asked her not to tell anyone because he could lose his job. He told her, “I’m just drunk and don’t know what I’m doing,” the report explained.

Deputies later interviewed Burdett, who reportedly acknowledged that he had been drinking that night.

According to jail records, Burdett was booked on two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, one for each incident that allegedly occurred. The charges are enhanced to first-degree felonies due to the suspect being in a position of trust as a baby sitter and the alleged victim was staying at his home.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

I am so tired of these kinds of stories! I am sickened by the amount of adults abusing, taking advantage of, and inevitably leaving scars that may never heal! Punishments must be more severe and deals must not be made for these predators!

Nah what sucks is when they go off a little girls word than make all this happen without talking to the so called predator

He acknowledged that he had been drinking that night. They talked to him.

Children don’t typically lie about stuff like that and the fact that he admitted to drinking and to not tell anybody because he would get fired, seems like a lot of detail for a kid to come up with. As a victim you have no idea how hard it is to come forward, and not taking her seriously could have led to her thinking what he did was okay; essentially starting a pattern of allowing men to abuse her.

The little girls word was credible and had he kept his hands to himself. He would not be in this sitituation.

In light of the recent article about the LDS church covering themselves. The parents of this little girl should be commended. They educated her on what was and was not appropriate. They listened to her and found her outcry credible. Then they reported this tool to the police. This little girl was not a victim in this case she was warrior! Standing up and communicating with one of her friend parents. Having the courage to go to her parents and then the police. She stopped herself from being victimized and prevented this tool from doing it to someone else. To the parents, great job! This is a great example of how to do it right in a horrific nightmare scenario.
