Logan man arrested for allegedly trying to meet up to have sex with undercover police officer

LOGAN — A 23-year-old Logan man has been arrested for allegedly trying to meet up to have sex with an undercover police officer, posing as a 13-year-old girl. Cameron Michael Ross was booked Tuesday afternoon into the Cache County Jail after reportedly telling police he had messed up.

According to an arrest report, Ross began engaging in online chats with a Logan City Police officer Tuesday morning. He also sent an inappropriate photo of privates, while arranging to meet at a park near his home.

During the message exchange, the officer stated their age multiple times and also made references to being in middle school.

Ross allegedly told the officer he wanted to have sex with her. A time and place was arranged to meet.

Police were able to identify Ross as the suspect from the phone number used in the text messages and photos sent.

Tuesday afternoon, Ross showed up at the predesignated spot and texted police that he’d arrived. Law enforcement surrounded the suspect and took him into custody without incident.

During questioning, Ross reportedly admitted to engaging in the chats. He claimed “he was only going to make her lunch, and warn her of the dangers of engaging of this sort of activity on the internet,” the affidavit explained.

While alone in the interview room, Ross allegedly made several statements that he had messed up and he couldn’t believe what he did.

Ross was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in 1st District Court. He was charged with rape of a child and enticing a minor, both second-degree felonies.

Judge Brian Cannell ordered Ross to remain in jail and appear again in court next week.

Ross said he intended to hire an attorney. He could face up to life in prison, if convicted.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

He’s been charged with “Rape of a Child”? Is that just an attempt to get him to plead guilty to a lesser charge? I have no idea how the prosecutor could hope to convict on a rape charge, since there obviously was no actual rape. Charge him with “Attempted Rape”, sure, but this charging just seems silly.

This young man is facing rape charges for enticing an adult posing as a child? I agree he should serve time and he is not an upstanding citizen. But let the punishment fit the crime. He was caught before actually committing said crime. Thank you LPD for doing a great job at stopping this before this man before he ruined a life or more. But seriously, I don’t like seeing people getting charged for things they did not do. It’s a little scary.

I find it so disgusting that the police department can be brought down an this sicko can be defended. SERIOUSLY take a look at the fact there is an individual who is an adult that is trying to get with a little girl or a minor! Idgaf if you think he is your friend! Idgaf if you think he’s a good gut! This individual was wanting ro get with a child! It doesn’t matter if it was a police officer posing or whatever! The guy was wanting to get with a child! Call him your friend! Defend him! Can you honestly defend a person wanting to get with a child? If so then maybe you should be checked out to cuz maybe your a sicko to!

Reread my comment…..I know ,It will take a little brain power.
And a side note. If this guy is a repeat offender he should be tried as such.
He is NOT a friend. Never heard of the guy :/

2 of the previous commenters may sing a different tune if this had not been a sting, and the potential victim were their child.

The sentence for attempted rape of a child should be just a severe as actually raping a child. He tried to do it and was stopped, but he would’ve done it if he could. That being said, it makes no sense to charge him with raping a child when there was no rape and there was no child.

And no, AKH, I don’t have different standards for how criminals should be punished that depend on whether the crime affects me personally or not.

I’m so sorry if my comment sparked a nerve for you. I’ll be the first to admit that, as a mother of a sexual assault victim, my opinions are often fueled by fear and hurt.
I hope we can all agree that our top priority should be to protect victims, and if these kinds of stings keep the perpetrators from meeting up with an actual child, I consider that a win.
Again, my apologies for any miscommunication I may have portrayed in my previous comment. I do need to remember that not everyone has experience what my daughter and I have, so therefore can’t fully empathize with our views.

I don’t understand why he’s being charged with rape? When I personally know this kid, he wasn’t even gonna do anything! He shouldn’t be going down for rape when he wasn’t even gonna touch her.

Considering what he did to my two young daughters (at the time) they were under 13yrs old. But North Park Police Dept finest told me there was nothing I could do at the time….WOW good job north park police finest. You really screwed this up. Good to see him off the streets so he can’t hurt another child…..GOOD JOB LCPD.

Ryan , what did he do to your two daughters ?

Lets just say it invloved Camerons hands and fingers in areas that should never EVER be touched. At the time this happened my daughter was 11 or 12. She and her sister had the exact same story as too what happened. But North Park Police thought we were just some happy little family and laughed it off like nothing. And I believe I was told I was only going for justice for my daughters because I mad at Camerons mother because we were in a difficult divorce. Which was not true, It happened about the same time making everything harder. North Park said we should go get some family counseling. My daughters at that age had the same story as what happened and when cameron entered there room and what he did. They were at the age they didn’t know how to tell a lie. Maybe the prosecuting attorney should be notified as to this. Cameron is a Danger to society and anyone he is around. He manipulates people and takes advantage of people. And maybe the North Park Police should be sued so how they handled my daughters case. And I would never ever claim Cameron as my son. Only serial killer would be so proud to claim him as a son.

Wish they would make the chat publicly available to see if this is a random sting, or targeted entrapment exploiting Camerons unjust upbringing in the legal system. With the unfitting charges, my guess is the second one.

@Ryan S, you were his FATHER FIGURE for a lengthy period of time, how can you be shocked a kid you treated like a criminal his whole childhood actually ended up a criminal?

@Tyler actually you have no idea what you are even talking about. I Didn’t know cameron his whole life/childhood. As far as being a perfect father figure well I’m far away from perfect. But teaching him how to break the law was not part of my parenting plan. Cameron did like the fact there was consequences to his decisions. If Cameron made choices that ended with him being arrested he made that choice and in real adult life you make bad decisions or choices you will have a consequence to answer too…maybe you haven’t learned that yet. I thought maybe you being his friend you would have seen that and been smarter than him. Because I thought you were.
