LETTER: Support for reelecting David Zook

About twelve years ago, I helped hire David Zook as the Nibley City Manager. That was one of our City Council’s best decisions. For the ten years that David was our City Manager, I found him to be hardworking, trustworthy, fair, and honest.

Two years ago, David took a new position when he was elected as Cache County Executive. He carried with him his commitment to open and lawful processes. David is intelligent and innovative, and he uses those skills to the benefit of the citizens that he serves.

David understands his role in county governance, and he excels at that job. He expects the same from other elected and appointed officials.

David has a vision for Cache County, and he never shies away from extra effort that will make our lives better.

David is a true public servant. I encourage you to research David’s character and qualifications and help reelect him as Cache County Executive.

Larry Jacobsen

Mayor, Nibley City

I agree with the Mayor. David Zook has been a professional manager of a city and now two years in to managing the County he has demonstrated real leadership. It is unfortunate that the County Council is populated by some who are less than mature, which seems to cause chaos in that body. However, competence will prevail over pettiness. I will be voting for David Zook.

I applaud the Council for standing up to Zook. His California politics are the reason for the conflict, not an incompetent council. Half the council is endorsing his opponent, yet NONE of the council have endorsed Zook. What does that tell you? Vote Zook out and let’s get back to serving the people of Cache County.

I got it! I need to vote yes for Zook and no for Lee.

My fellow neighbors, I recently learned about the write-in candidate after seeing signs on the side of the road and getting curious. I was pleasantly surprised by what I learned on Marc Ensign’s website. I’m most surprised that someone with ethics is willing to toss his hat in the ring with the hopes of helping our county out of what has frankly become a bit of a mess. I encourage all county residents to research for themselves and not jump to any knee-jerk conclusions about the write-in candidate, or harbor misplaced loyalty to someone who is currently in office but isn’t following county code.

How can you ‘reelect’ someone who was never elected in the first place? If you want to call a closed-door appointment by around 200 party delegates an ‘election’ then what about the other 55,000+ voters in Cache County who had no say in the matter? Perhaps if we had allowed voters to choose their Executive instead of choosing for them, we wouldn’t be in this mess.

I’m writing in Marc Ensign. No question.

Zook should spend his time on charity work for when county residents are not paying him. The executive shouldn’t be actively teaching college and promoting his Lions Club values. Hit him in the wallet. Fire him so he will move back to California where he came from.
