LOGAN — In our monthly spotlight of The Family Place Utah during their 40th anniversary, Kid’s Place director Krista Useche was a guest on KVNU’s For the People program on Thursday, and talked about some of the classes they offer.

“Our education department is awesome; they offer a variety of classes and workshops to help strengthen families. We have parenting classes, we have stepfamily classes, if that’s a new situation for you being in a stepfamily, (it) can be difficult to navigate.

“We also have a body safety course called Kids Empowered, and that’s where they go in to the schools in our community and teach kids about their bodies, and that they are the ones in charge and they get to make choices for their bodies,” she said.

Useche said they also have their Mental Health First Aid training, both an adult and teen version.

“Much like First Aid, right? We learn First Aid to help save somebody’s life. Well, Mental Health First Aid is much the same, learning more about different mental illnesses and how to respond and how we can be there for people to help them through whatever situation it is and get them to the proper care that they need.”

The Family Place operates entirely on community support and on their website you can see ways to volunteer and to donate.

On there is information about their Starfish Giving Machine where you can see exactly what your donation can go for.

And Useche had some news about donations.

“I also do want to say it is our giving campaign right now, and we have a donor that has offered to match all of our donations, up to $100,000 dollars. So anything you give to the giving machine or to The Family Place will be matched up until the end of the year.”
