LOGAN — A 27-year-old Logan woman has admitted to stealing thousands of dollars from her former employer. Chelsie Leigh Guimaraes was originally arrested in April 2017 but later released on bail from the Cache County Jail.

Guimaraes appeared Monday afternoon for a hearing in 1st District Court. She pleaded guilty to forgery and theft, both third-degree felonies.

Prosecutors explained how in 2016 and 2017, Guimaraes ordered checks in the name of her previous employer. She then forged and cashed more than $5,000 in checks at local businesses.

Defense attorney Michael McGinnis explained how the case was delayed as prosecutors worked out a plea deal that includes the condition that Guimaraes will pay back the stolen money. Prosecutors also agreed to drop 7 remaining charges.

Guimaraes spoke only briefly, telling the court she wished to waive her rights to a fair trial and plead “guilty” to the two charges. She was scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 19, when she could face up to five years in prison.

I’ve been looking for a pen pal but, yeah… she’s not the one.

Thats a great outcome. She has obviously learned from her mistake and now knows that that crime doesn’t pay. Good for her for learning a valuable life lesson.
