Logan man arrested for allegedly choking teenage boy

LOGAN — A 37-year-old Logan man has been arrested for allegedly choking a 16-year-old child, according to police. Sammie Lee Hodges was booked Sunday night into the Cache County Jail.

According to a probable cause statement from the Logan City Police Department, officers were called to the dispute earlier Sunday. The alleged teenage victim explained how Hodges had placed him in a chokehold, impeding his airway, during the altercation.

Hodges admitted to officers that he put the child in the chokehold. Police also found evidence to indicate the suspect’s actions were not self-defense.

The teenager had visible physical injuries following the incident.

Jail records show, Hodges was booked on suspicion of aggravated child abuse, a second-degree felony. He is being held, pending formal arraignment in 1st District Court.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
