LOGAN — A 29-year-old Logan man is headed to prison for threatening a woman with a knife during a domestic dispute last year. Dekker C. Boeke was given the maximum sentence after a judge said the defendant was out of control because of drugs.

Boeke was sentenced Monday morning in 1st District Court. He previously pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.

On April 26, 2022, Logan City Police officers were called to a duplex near 930 N. 300 West around 2:30 a.m. The victim explained how Boeke had shown up asking for drugs.

The woman told police that she woke up to find Boeke holding a box cutter blade to her throat. He had reportedly entered her home unlawfully while she was sleeping.

The victim stated that Boeke demanded her to get him illegal drugs. He also cut his own forearm to show he was serious and made statements about having killed people before, according to the police report.

Officers located Boeke locked inside a bedroom. He was later taken into custody without incident

Police later found a utility knife and blood inside a bathroom. They also discovered a wound on Boeke’s forearm, consistent with the victim’s statement.

During Monday’s sentencing, defense attorney Cameron Cox said Boeke had a troubled childhood and dysfunctional family. He also acknowledged that his client had a lengthy criminal history, including serving 15 months in prison on a weapon’s case.

Boeke said he wanted to take responsibility for all of his wrongs. He expressed hope in working on his addictions and health problems.

Judge Spencer Walsh expressed concern that Boeke was minimizing the seriousness of what had happened. He ordered the defendant to serve a term of zero to five years in prison, the exact length of time will be determined by the Utah State Board of Pardons and Parole.
