LETTER: Fuller Center for Housing of Cache Valley marks special anniversary

This month marks our first anniversary of transitioning from a Habitat for Humanity Affiliate to becoming a Fuller Center for Housing Covenant. We want to thank all who helped us make the transition and give special recognition to our board members for their time and efforts.

The Fuller Center for Housing is not as well-known as Habitat for Humanity. But they share the same founder, Linda and Millard Fuller, and share the same street in Americus, Georgia. We all believe everyone deserves a decent, affordable, and safe place to live. The difference between the two is that the Fuller Center for Housing assists low-income homeowners needing critical repairs to keep a home safe and functional. Our non-profit offers assistance to facilitate these changes, whether on a small or large scale. If the project is large and requires funding and materials, we can offer the homeowner zero percent interest financing and a payment plan to fit their budget.

Our home improvement Thrift Store opened back in 2015. The store is open to the public to shop and donate. The proceeds go directly to fulfilling our non-profit mission. The thrift store also becomes a source of materials for our projects. For example, one family had a broken front window in their home and had stapled up clear plastic to help keep out the cold. We were able to get a new window installed for them using one that had been donated to our store.

In some cases, the project is less about repairs and more about safety and accessibility. For some, home safety and access mean adding a wheelchair ramp and grab bars. For others, structural repairs to a ceiling may be needed. We are lucky to have builders who bring their knowledge and skills to ensure every job is done correctly and with licensed contractors.

Using materials donated to the Thrift Store, we are able to do repairs at the lowest cost possible, while ensuring the finished product is safe and done well. Seeing a completed project and its impact on everyone is truly amazing.

Being a non-profit organization, we depend upon our community for support. We do not receive funding from any state or federal agencies. We exist because of the generosity of our community. We are grateful to our donors, volunteers, and customers, and we thank you for your continued support. We hope to see you soon.

It may not be as well known, however it is still just a noble.
