Trash deal is done, says North Logan Mayor, and a survey says citizens want a rec center with indoor pool

NORTH LOGAN — North Logan Mayor Lyndsay Peterson made her monthly appearance on KVNU’s For the People program on Monday.

One of the things the city has been working on is finalizing an agreement for trash pick-up after Logan City last year said that continuing to provide those services to the county was not sustainable because of growth. Peterson said they signed an agreement with Waste Management Services last week.

“That was kind of the direction we were headed and we were in negotiations at the time. But, yeah, we’ve reached an agreement with them after a lot of discussions with both their lawyers and our lawyers and the mayors. We met last week to discuss that and finalize everything. Now we start the process of implementation,” she explained.

Peterson said that it will be a bit of a “heavy lift” for North Logan.

Also, Logan City announced that they will not be providing green waste roll-off bins this summer. She said there will be a gap between when Waste Management starts service. To help alleviate that, the city has a tentative plan to provide a Spring Clean-up day around the time of May 5th and 6th.

The mayor hopes the snow keeps on melting away, as they have quite a few events planned for April.

“Walmart is doing a renovation, so they’re having a re-grand opening on the 21st and they’re planning on bringing in some farm animals and having a bunch of giveaways and things like that, so I think that’s super fun,” Peterson explained. “The Honey Bee pageant is on the 22nd.

“We haven’t firmed this up but we’re talking about doing a Founder’s Day of service, so Founder’s Day, when North Logan was formed, and just doing a big service project. I think that’s something that’s needed in our community.”

Peterson said the city recently conducted a citizen satisfaction survey which garnered 700 responses.

“I went through on my social media talking about some of the information that we got from that, we just published the graphs from that. And we’re going to be continuing to talk about that because I think it’s important not only to get that information but also to share with everyone what other people in the community said about the issues that they see in North Logan, some improvements that we can make,” Peterson added. “One of the biggest surprises that came out of it for me is the universal support for a rec center with a pool, an indoor pool facility.”

The mayor said they’re talking about it and they’ll see where that goes. You can always get more information on what’s going on in the city at NorthLoganCity.org.

An indoor pool? Didn’t Logan already try that Municipool idea? A lot of expense for taxpayers to benefit a small number of people and huge maintenance costs.
