LOGAN – A veteran of 30 years service with the Logan City police department is one of two candidates who will visit the Utah State University campus this month as the national search continues for the school’s next chief of police.
A USU spokesperson indicated more candidates could be invited as the national search will continue until the position is filled.
Curtis Hooley, a Logan City police captain, manages the department’s patrol and investigations divisions. Jason T. Brei has held various positions the last two decades at the University of Arizona Police Department.
Their on-campus interviews are scheduled for April 25-26, each providing a public presentation titled “Building Bridges Between Law Enforcement and the University Community — a Model for Collaboration.”
USU is searching for a replacement for Blair Barfuss who served for seven months in Logan and Feb. 21 was named the Riverton City chief of police.
The USU police chief leads all functions of the department on the Logan campus and also on the campus of USU Eastern in Price.
Search for real change not an old worn out rerun like Hooley. Let him look elsewhere to double dip.
Curtis Hooley is a good man and would be a great choice by USU as their next Chief of Police!
Selecting candidates from our local community ought to be a priority. I am sure there are several competent officers who know our community, are invested in our community who would effectively serve in this capacity. We need to value our local police officers.
