LOGAN – The Utah Driver License Division (DLD) and DonorConnect Utah have recently unveiled a new tribute plaque honoring Tayzli “Tay-Tay” Hale, a three-year-old donor from Petersboro who saved multiple lives through the gift of donation. The plaque was revealed on Tuesday, April 18th, and is the second of several plaques that will be installed across the state, honoring members of Utah’s transplant community.

Tayzli was involved in an accident while riding her horse in September 2017, which resulted in a Traumatic Brain Injury. However, her parents’ decision for her to become an organ donor helped save the lives of four individuals. The plaque was installed in the Logan Driver License Division office and serves as a reminder of the importance of organ donation.

“We are excited to be working with the Driver License Division to inspire and educate the community with the unveiling of Tayzli’s plaque,” said Brady Dransfield from DonorConnect.

“When they first brought the idea to me about putting up these plaques, I was really excited,” said Chris Caras, Director of the DLD. “It really brings home to the locales the connections and interpersonal benefits that come from the organ donation program.”

Tayzli’s mother, Whitney Hale, was in attendance at the ceremony and expressed her pride in her daughter’s selflessness.

“We’re just so proud of her and the difference that she can make,” Hale said in a release. “By putting this plaque up here, I feel like maybe she can help one more person to mark ‘yes’ on their driver license and make a world of difference to somebody else.”

The DLD and DonorConnect Utah hope that the tribute plaques will inspire more Utahns to become organ, eye, and tissue donors. All plaques honor either a deceased donor, living donor or recipient from the community in which the plaques are installed.

There are currently more than 105,000 people waiting for organ transplants in the United States, including more than 800 in Utah. Utah residents can register to become donors at their local DLD office or at DonorConnect.life.
