USU Commencement is Thursday and Friday next week

LOGAN – More than 6,600 students will earn degrees next week during the 136th commencement ceremony at Utah State University.

The annual procession from the Quad will begin at 8:20 a.m. Thursday, May 4, arriving in time for the commencement ceremony which begins at 9 a.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Hooding ceremonies and college invocations will begin Thursday afternoon and will run through Friday, May 5.

This year’s commencement speaker, Paul Anthony Jones, is a USU alum and currently president of Fort Valley State University in Georgia.

Receiving honorary degrees in addition to Dr. Jones will be philanthropist and businessman Jonathan Bullen, former U.S. Representative Mia Love and Elder Gary Stevenson, current member the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Cache Valley native.

A broadcast of the ceremony will be available on Aggie Cast and there is a complete schedule of events at the USU commencement website.

Champ Drive will be closed because of construction underway near the Quad and won’t be accessible from U.S. Highway 89/400 North.

Approved drop-off zones the morning of May 4 include the base of Old Main Hill, the roundabout between the Latter-day Saint Institute property and the Fieldhouse, and at 950 East near the west side of the Merrill-Cazier Library.
