Newton man previously convicted of child abuse; arrested for alleged sex abuse

LOGAN — A 45-year-old Newton man previously convicted of using sticks to spank five young children has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing two young girls. Charles Allan Olson was booked Monday afternoon into the Cache County Jail.

According to the arrest report, the alleged victim told Cache County Sheriff’s deputies how Olson would allegedly expose himself to her. At other times, he would enter a bathroom while she was showering, to view her naked.

The alleged victim also reported other incidents when she and another girl were inappropriately touched by Olson. The other victim was interviewed and confirmed the allegations.

Authorities report Olson was considered a person of trust to the victims.

In September 2021, Olson was sentenced to serve 120 days in jail followed by probation, for child abuse. The victims, ages 5 through 16-years-old, told sheriff’s deputies how they were disciplined by him when they broke rules or when he became angry. He would use “spanking sticks” made of wood, metal, or wire. Some of the sticks had names like Old Bamboo, Sammy Kablame, White Lightning, Egg Beater and Sold Truth.

One of the young girls told investigators that Olson “had tied her to a bar stool in the garage,” with paracord that he would use to make whips. She said he tied her hands to the bottom of the stool on one side and her feet to the bottom on the other side, forcing her to bend over the stool and that he did this to keep her still.

As part of the investigation into the newest allegations, deputies attempted to interview Olson. He refused to answer any questions.

According to jail records, Olson was booked on suspicion of forcible sex abuse, a first degree felony. He is being held temporarily, pending arrangement on formal charges in 1st District Court.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

This man beat his children with sticks and was given 120 days with work release. I sure hope the judge and the mother of his children take his crimes more seriously this time. He should be in prison.

I worked with him for years and had no idea he was a monster. He should have gone to prison when it was discovered that he physically abused his children by hitting them with homemade torture rods. I hope his wife can explain why she allowed him to beat and torture their children. Charles was away from them everyday. She had ample opportunity to get help.

Hope that he receives justice in prison and then some.

Until the child of a judge gets raped by an adult, the punishment will never be tough enough..My ex is now facing 25 class 1 felonies for molesting my kids and I pray he goes away for the rest of his life.

Careful with the impulse to victim blame.
While these are new charges, there is no indication this is new abuse.

Assuming mom had ample opportunity to get help shows a gross misunderstanding on how domestic abuse affects victims mentally and emotionally.

Laura- I am so sorry for the horror you are going through. Truly there is nothing more gut wrenching then knowing your precious child has been hurt by someone they trusted
