LOGAN – After a review of its Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC) during Fall semester of 2022, Utah State University issued a request for proposals at the end of the semester.
That led to USU’s selection last month of Intermountain Health’s medical group to assume management of the on-campus center.
The school announced Monday (May 1) that by July 1 Intermountain will take over all services at the SHWC. Since demand for care is lower during the summer, that will allow Intermountain time to have new processes and systems in place for fall semester 2023.
USU Executive Vice President Robert Wagner said most of the center’s budget comes from student tuition.
“When making this decision, our focus was on continuing a high quality of care for students while also using tuition dollars in the most cost-effective way,” said Wagner.
Members of the USU Student Association were involved in the process and last Tuesday, April 25, the final decision was discussed with the USUSA Executive Council.
As part of Intermountain’s proposal the center’s current staff will transition from USU to Intermountain and the plan for that process was discussed with SHWC employees Monday of this week.
