It might be easier to get around this summer as Cache County scales back road projects

LOGAN — On a recent KVNU County Hour, Cache County Executive David Zook said road maintenance season will soon be upon us. But he said there may not be as much going on this summer as in the past.

“However, we are reevaluating how many road maintenance projects we are going to be able to do this summer because our road crews have been working so much over the winter, more than ever,” explained Zook.

He said their overtime budget is pretty well depleted for the whole year.

One thing that Zook would not comment on was an ongoing state audit investigation involving Cache County.

He said the state will take its time in its investigation. As far as county audits are concerned, Zook said they are not designed to bully individuals.

“The approach that we have taken is that our internal audits are being completed so that we can figure out ways to do things the best way possible,” he explained. “How can we be more efficient, how can we make sure we’re following all of the laws?

“We have been careful to communicate to our staff in our organization that our internal audits are not a club that we’re bringing in to beat people over the head with.”

Zook said they are not intended to be punitive or get people in trouble.
