The five most commonly reported crimes in Utah revealed

SALT LAKE CITY — A new study has revealed the most commonly reported crimes in different states across the US. The research, conducted by criminal defense law firm Jorge Vela Law, analyzed the latest statistics from the United States Bureau of Justice to reveal which crimes had the highest number of reported incidents in each state throughout 2021.

The five most commonly reported crimes in Utah were:

1: Destruction, Damage, and Vandalism of Property. It accounted for 23,747 incidents in the state throughout 2021. Vandalism refers to the purposeful destruction or defacing of someone else’s physical property in a way that reduces the property’s value. Vandalism involves the destruction of property, but it is not always considered to be the same crime as destruction or damage of property. These crimes may cover more serious damage to property depending on the state and may thus be charged differently.

2: Drugs & Narcotics Violations with 20,323 reported incidents in the state in 2021. It refers to crimes involving the use, possession, distribution, trafficking and manufacture/cultivation of controlled drugs.

3: Drug Equipment Violations accounted for 19,112 reported crimes in 2021. They may relate to the possession, distribution, and importation of drug paraphernalia or equipment that are related to the production, sale, consumption and concealment of controlled drugs.

4: All Other Larceny, with 17,719 reported incidents in 2021. It is often used interchangeably with theft. However, in the context of US law, Larceny is a specific kind of theft that involves material personal property or items that can be possessed and carried away.

5: Simple Assault, with 16,656 reported incidents in the state throughout 2021. It is an unlawful physical attack by one person upon another where the offender does not display a weapon and the victim does not suffer obvious severe injuries. It often involves intimidation. Simple assault is often tried as a misdemeanor.

Jorge Vela who carried out the research said, “This data provides a fascinating insight into crime in the US. While incidents and charges may vary from state to state based on demographics and local laws, it is important to know which crimes are most prevalent in one’s area in order to know what security measures to take.”

I’m not the brightest tack in bushel. I could be wrong. I would venture a guess that “SV football coaches assaulting… ” would be counted in the #5 area of the article simple assault. Depending on the number of people assaulted it might be 1 or more of the 16,656 reported incidents.

Or perhaps you were suggesting that there is a category called football coaches assault and it has happened more than more then simple assault 16,656+ times and that football coaches assaults on women should be in the top five and there by eliminating simple assault?
