BRIGHAM CITY — A 63-year-old man drove a pickup truck through the front doors of Brigham City Hall, Thursday afternoon, according to law enforcement. No one was in the lobby at the time and the driver was not injured.
According to the Brigham City Police Department, the pickup truck driver drove through the front doors of the city hall building at roughly 3 p.m.
Police officers said they have had “dealings” with the man in the past and family members have expressed concerns about him.
The police department shared photos of the damage on its social media account. They showed the lobby with shattered glass along the floor and smashed office furniture.
Detectives believe the driver was having some sort of mental health issue and are investigating if other factors were at play. The man told police his family members were dead, people were chasing him and he was trying to get away.
The suspect was checked for injuries and evaluated. His identity was not released, pending the completion of the investigation.
No one was inside the lobby at the time the crash occurred, police believe at this time that the driver was experiencing mental health issues during the incident.
While impairment is not suspected, it is not currently being ruled out as they continue their investigation.
