LOGAN — Utah State’s backup quarterback, Levi Williams, makes his way onto the Cache Valley Media Group Top 25 Aggies. Though he’ll likely not be starting unless injuries strike, Williams could still factor into the offense now and again, as he did last year prior to his own injury in the back half of the season.

Williams enters his second year in Logan after transferring from Wyoming. In six starts he put on a show in several games, most notably in the 2021 Potato Bowl against Kent State. He accounted for five touchdowns (four rushing, one passing) with 200 yards rushing and 127 passing yards.

Last year with the Aggies, Williams made six appearances, completed 5 of 17 passes for 28 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. He also ran the ball 10 times for 51 yards. These numbers aren’t really indicative of Williams’ potential as a dual-threat QB and really just show how sparse his playing time was. Last year he was the third-string quarterback to start the season and when injuries thrust him into a starting role against Colorado State, Williams suffered his own injury that effectively ended his season.

Barring an injury that would make him the starter, Williams’ value could come as a spot sub on short yardage situations. His 6-foot-5, 225-pound frame makes him an excellent candidate for gaining one or two yards on third/fourth down. It’s a way that, even in a low-snap position like backup quarterback, Williams could bring good value to the team.
